I have been your moderator for some time now, but you may not have noticed, since I haven't been very active on tribe in the last year.

"what ever happend to the guys out there that actually ENJOY pampering females with romance? Im talkin ROMANCE People.....sending us flowers or hell...even just leaving a single rose on my car....a simple note saying "thinking of you"on my windshield.....??? dropping something sweet at my work.....even sending a note in the (eeegads...) SNAIL MAIL.....???!! surprising us with those enviable concert tix we've been lusting after?....whisking us away to some small, lovely, low lit candle lite dinner.....picnic basket and a blanket at a park?..... I told her that women had killed it off and every time it pops up they stomp it to death again.

My answer

My two cents

While women’s independency has had an effect on the romantic aspects and declining romantic endeavors from men it is not the cause of the decline or “death”. In my experience and in talking to other women, men (in regards to my experience) have become lazy and jaded.

(Again, in regards to my personal experience and story sharing)

They have become intimidated by women’s ability to
Protect our selves
- Just because they can doesn’t mean they want to have to do it all the time. Yes it may be shallow but we occasionally we like to feel protected

Make equal salary
- We want and strive to make an equal salary because we deserve it not because we intentionally (not all) want to show we are better or smarter than men

Can provide for our selves
- This goes along the same lines as protection. Whether it is sex fulfillment, adventure, housing ect… we can do it ourselves. However, we still like to feel as if we can ask or rely on our partner to help us or even take over if he (or she) can do so willingly because they want to help make it easier for us.

Lastly, Gawd I hate it when guys get lazy and say things like they don’t think they have / should have to “work” for our attention after they “have” us. If men would take their head out of their ass they would see that women often do the same little things “just because” no reason other than “just because”.

Just Because are the little ways of saying you love her, you care about her, you appreciate her and your glad she is in your life. If you (men) do not love her, do not care about her and you really don’t appreciate her and could care very little if she is or is not in your life why are you with her? Especially if you know she thinks you do?

Ladies, if you expect a man to go out of his way with gestures like flowers, notes, etc. You've got to be ready to do the same for him.

There are a ton of guys out there willing to go the extra mile to show a woman how much he cares, but being a bitch when it DOESN'T happen will only ensure that it stays that way.

So, Saint, tell your friend that one of two things is happening if all guys treat her the same way:

1. She's not dating the right type of man. Tehy are out there.

2. Maybe the problem isn't the men.....

Looking for Loved Ones - Safe and Well: Safe and Well is a nationally accessible website, developed as a free community service by the American Red Cross, that provides a way for individuals affected by a disaster (within the U.S.) to list themselves as "safe and well." Then, loved ones can check on the status of their family and friends. Register and connect at 1-800-RED CROSS or www.redcross.org.

Orange County Rescue Mission is accepting all non-perishable donations and gift certificates to restaurants Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 6pm Map to Orange County Rescue Mission. They are also asking groups to organize canned food drives, for more information please visit www.operationoc.org

If you would like to help please do not attempt to go to the affected areas. Trained first responders are in place and assisting where needed. Intentions may be for the best but going to evacuated or hazardous areas only slows efforts and creates distractions.

Are you sitting at home in your underwear (like I am, Polo boxers, that's kind of classy, isn't it?), wondering why you're not out on a date?

Are you sitting at your office in your underwear, wondering why security is ready to escort you off the premises?

Not to worry, you're not a hideous creature that no one will ever love. You just need to put on some pants and get out in the world!

How about this: While you're waiting for the man/woman/farm animal of your dreams to walk into your life, why don't you find a noble, interesting pursuit to occupy your time.

There is a Burners Without Borders tribe ( http://tribes.tribe.net/bwb ). They've already done much great work in Louisiana and Mississippi, and now they're trying to set up chapters in cities like L.A. The L.A. people are currently looking for ways to help out with the latest wildfires.

So, check out BWB, or the Salvation Army, or the Red Cross, or whatever church or charitable organization appeals to you. Ask what you can do to help, and next thing you know, you'll be out with other volunteers. Sure, most of them will just be someone to talk to, but maybe, just maybe, you'll meet someone with whom you really click and next thing you know...

So, in those words that have been repeated time immemorial, "don't just stand there, _do_ something!"

First of all, Shiho, thank you for turning over the reins. I am very glad (with just a hint of "oh, darn") that you have found a meaningful relationship. I wish you the very best.

For all the rest of you: Shame on you! You've been on this quiet tribe for months if not years, and have you posted? Have you gone on a date?

It's time for that to change. Under my rule, there shall be flirtation, there shall be debauchery, there shall be dating.

As a benevolent dictator, I stand in the trenches with my troops, as I mix metaphor and analogy like a copy of "Elements of Style" in a food processor. In short, I shall flirt, I shall debouch, and I shall date.

So, to chum the waters (perhaps a metaphor best left unused), here's me:
I'm bender, an Orange County guy who's currently pursuing my dream to be an inventor. I enjoy going out and socializing with my friends, as well as spending quiet evenings at home watching TV while working on projects. I'm smart, funny, and charming, and I have a good heart.

L.A. FOODIES

On another site, years ago, I found a group that was called Sydney Foodies. As I travel to Sydney often, I decided to post and join them for a night out at a great little restaurant. I met some friends that I have to this day.

Why can't a similar sort of group be formed here in this large city of Los Angeles on tribe? The idea is to have periodic gatherings of those who enjoy meeting one another to experience and enjoy food, eating at chosen restaurants.

Never pressure to post nor to attend any of the meet-ups. I hope that it can be a place where either you have a great restaurant that you want to try or share with others *in real life*, or if you read a time and place that appeals to you, you simply post and attend. The idea of trying out new restaurants, centered around the act of sharing a meal with one another appeals to me.

Do you think it can work in a city much larger and so different than Sydney?

*Hello Wonderful People of Tribe… this one’s for the single ladies,

My name is Brian Birbiglia and I’m single living in Venice, California. These days I’m pretty happy, but I’ve been feeling like something is missing in my life and I think that I know what it is; female companionship. I would be interested in a nice young lady that is down to earth, selfless, caring and considerate. I’m 34, so someone within 6 or 7 years of my own age would be wonderful. I’m relatively physically fit and would be interested in someone that takes pride in there appearance without arrogance. Someone that is growing spiritually or is at least aware that they have a spiritual side they need to feed. And this individual will tantalize my intellect and inspire me every now and again and hopefully I will do the same for her.

A little about me:

Born in New Jersey, raised in Indianapolis, 1 year of College, 5 years Marine Corps Special Operations, Finance Manager for Citi Capital, traveled on my own throughout Mexico and The US and have finally settled in Los Angeles and have been here for over one year and I’m pretty set in life, but not in my ways.
I’m kind, honest, and considerate of others, selfless, compassionate and adventurous… but it hasn’t always been that way… except for the adventurous part. Let’s just say I used to be my own worst enemy and if I was alone, I was in bad company. It took me 31 years to realize three important things. One, I had been living without a spiritual side. Two, I recognized that I had character defects which constantly need work. Finally, I figured out that there is only one person in this entire world that I have the ability to control…. That person is me! Put these things all together and working on them daily, I have become and am becoming a much better human being.
I can clean up pretty nicely or do the dirtiest of work with a smile. There’s not much that I’m really in need of monetarily speaking and I certainly don’t put any value into my physical possessions as my social stature. In fact, that kind of behavior irritates me.
I love to travel, going to the beach, eating dinner with everyone at home and making others smile. I feel like I’m kind of stuck growing all by myself and look forward to someone entering my life to grow with. Basically what I’m saying is…. I grow better when I’m inspired by my better half.

My Idiotic Expectations (that sets me up for failure)

I’d be a great father figure, but I’m not prepared to take on that responsibility… nor would I ever want to. I would like to have my own children someday… that’s the easy part. Finding the one that knows what a partnership is in a relationship. One who is willing to stand her ground, fighting the battles that need fought and who will never give up on the greater good… which, in my opinion is FAMILY!. She is also wise enough to know that honesty, communication and compromise are the keys to a maturing relationship.

I'm starting to think that everyone in this tribe has found "that one", got hitched, or decided "Eh, this a'int the life for me". Dancing etiquette?

So I went out to a dance club last weekend, it wasn't really my "scene"but I noticed a trend.

The girls would move out to the dance floor in packs, then the guys would come on in and just start grinding from behind.

Now I'm all for hot sweaty bodies getting busy on a dance floor, but it feels a little intrusive to just come up from behind and go at it.

What ever happened to: Get caught staring, she turns away then glances back with a look that says "like what you see?". I can handle myself from there.

However, while attempting this tried technic, before I could get caught staring some other guy would slide up from behind and get busy. That seemed to be "ok" to do.

I don't know, just feels really intrusive to me. I guess like a vampire I require welcome to enter personal space.

Any thoughts?

If true love can be bought through a weak identity scam, it's no surprise that anyone would sell themselves out as the romance shill.

There’s been a recent craze of establishing and asserting a verified identification as a badge of honor to display through the course of on-line dating. The concept is ripe with good intentions – either to make money, or provide tacit assurance to prosepct dates and mates that the person behind the flirtations is real – but there could be unwanted con-sequences long-term.

At least in the case of TruFina.com, anyone who knows anything about me, has rifled my trash can, or lived with me, can obtain and claim a TruFina identity as if they were me, associated with any email address they choose. Just how many 'me' are there out there, could there be, and who cares?

Obviously the folks at TruFina.com knows little or nothing about identity verification, identity theft, fraud, nor on-line dating, yet they claim, as other such services do, that you will gain some advantage that will ultimately protect you, me, or a prospective mate, from dealing with the wrong people. Such services assume that we’ll trust them and the sources of their data, to be reliable, accurate and looking after our best interests.

Unfortunately these services lure people into a false sense of trust, validation, verification and protected identity - all through a weak one-sided "give me your information, I'll make sure who you are and certify that claim."

Aside from possibly storing your personal data for untold future purposes, they are doing nothing more than a cursory lookup of readily available information from the likes of a Equifax or ChoicePoint - data brokers and information banks. They buy and collect information from various sources and re-sell it in many different forms – you may be familiar with them if you’ve had a pre-employment background check run on you – your employer must tell you and the company must share with you what they provided. We have no prior or accurate knowledge of or control over the source or validity of the information they have. Given that ChoicePoint's database was recently compromised, we should have no trust that they aren't storing and distributing false information about anyone.

None of what TruFina or any of the other identity certification services offer could have prevented the financial loss the group of initial developers suffered through the unscrupulous practices of TruFina's founders. They new without question the identity of the people that became TruFina and made hollow promises and left invoices unpaid. If you want trust, security, comfort, peace, love and eternal happiness, TruFina is not the place to go nor trust for it. But wait, there's more...

We are seeing more and more issues and layers of 'trust' thrust before us, based on no more than one web-front operation buying data from another web-front operation that collects unqualified, unverified data from several other unknown sources. We jump into a tangled web woven by others unknown and consider it 'trust' because they have a trustworthy-looking web site, an official looking certification logo, and offer a lot of fancy words about privacy.

Information brokers such as ChoicePoint are under no legal or recognized ethical scrutiny to ensure the data they acquire and distribute is accurate, much less if it can be compromised or if some of the records are totally false. Further, in the case of many such operations, the pro-grams are written off-shore in places that have no ethics much less agreements about what happens to the data they handle - your data - which may be in China, Hong Kong, India, Egypt, Russia... Do you know where your data is and who's playing with it?

What does this this type of asserted and assumed 'trust' do for an on-line dater? That depends on other dater's requirements for 'trust', which has less to do with your Social Security number, who previously used your present address, and whether or not you got a speeding ticket last month than it does with how you behave and others perceive you in specific contexts - that and silly human emotion, neither of which can be applied for and certified by an on-line database derieved from an-other on-line database derived from... an endless stream of unqualified, unmanageable data sources.

Of all the friends and associates I've discussed on-line dating reality with, and those I have 'met' on-line in the course of research, the type of assurances they rely on, and what would improve the quality of their on-line dating quests leading to dates in real-life, an identity check was not high on the list.

Interestingly enough - not one of them has ever asked a real-life date to see a driver's license, Social Security card, and a list of past occupants of their current home - before the first date or after the wedding - whether they became acquainted on-line or at the local coffee shop.

Their criteria? Chemistry. Behavior. Communication. Circumstances. Experience. Intuition. Reality. But not ID cards and certifications!

The significance, or insignificance of this 'identity' dilemma must not be lost on anyone either observing or patronizing it. This is a simple attempt to make money preying on and playing with the hearts, souls, hormones, emotions and pocketbooks of over 40 million generally nice, well-meaning people who turn to the likes of Match.com, Yahoo! Personals and such instead of the local bar scene for companionship.

The data they are 'selling' has little or no true financial value except what someone is willing to pay to dig it up and report it, but it is invaluable to those of us who the data is about. Aside from the Internet connections and servers and programming that mangle the data, the cost of goods sold in this business is essentially ZERO, the value is in how it's processed.

The only people achieving enriched-lives through these services are the few people of TruFina, and the dating sites they buddy-up with to resell your information packaged as a 'certification'. You can expect it to cost between $3 and $10 per month to have the likes of ChoicePoint and TruFina muck around with the data elements of your life and resell them as more than they are. They profit from your existance - an existance, as stated above - that almost anyone who knows enough about you can mimic and assert as their own.

Yes, with enough easy guesses, someone could play with services like TruFina through trial-and-error to determine enough correct answers about your life to become you - not only on TruFina and dozens of dat-ing sites, but carry that information into TSA ID systems and become you, ready to fly without the scrutiny of secondary screening to see if you've got stick matches in your socks.

The more these trivial, unregulated players in the identity and trust business put weak systems out there, the LESS SECURE Americans will be in the long run, and I'm not sure they will prevent as many priceless broken hearts as they will take your money. The likes of TruFina are not only Truly False, Truly Farce, they are Truly Frightening.

Hi everybody,

I guess I like being single, 'cus I seem to get uncomfortable when things get too serious, especially too fast, and yet I'm an affectionate, romantic guy, so I foster just what scares me. Maybe I've just been burned too many times (and, yes, burned others too, but it still leaves a mark), and it's taking me longer to be ready for a romantic relationship. I don't know.

What I do know, however, is that I like to go on dates. I like the excitement (and even fear) of a first date, I like to get to know people better, and I like to do all those little things that make a date more special than just going out with one's friends.

So, I think I'm a commitmentphobe, but I'm being up front about it. How does that play in this crowd? Does that just make me one of those frustrating, charming guys that women feel ripped-off when I don't take it further?

Sooner or later a person begins to notice that everything that happens to her is perfect, relates directly to who she is, had to happen, plays its little role in fulfilling her destiny.

When she encounters difficulty, it no longer occurs to her to complain -- she has learned to expect nothing, has learned that loss and frustration are a part of life, and come at their proper time -- instead she asks herself, why is this happening? . . . by which she means, what can I learn from this, how will it strengthen me, make me more aware? She lets herself be strenthened, lets herself grow, just as she lets herself relax and enjoy (and grow) when life is gentle to her.

Strengthened by this simple notion, simple awareness, that life is perfect, that all things come at the proper moment, and that she is always the perfect person for the situation she finds herself in, a person begins to feel more and more in tune with her inner nature, begins to find it easier and easier to do what she knows is right.

All chance events appear to her to have been intended; all intentional actions she clearly perceives as part of the workings of Chance. Anxiety seldom troubles her; she knows her death will come at the proper moment; she knows her actions are right and therefore whatever comes to pass as a result of them will be what is meant to happen.

When she does feel anxiety, she realizes it is because of that thing she's been meaning to do but hasn't done, some unfulfilled relationship she's been aware of, but . . . She perceives the anxiety as a message that she'll have to stop hestating if she wants to stay high . . . She knows that she is out of tune because she's let herself get out of tune; and because she knows she can, she begins to take action.

She enjoys her high life; does not enjoy anxiety; so she stops hesitating and does what she has to do. She does not live in a state of bliss, though perhaps she feels herself moving toward one -- or toward something, she doesn't know what it is but it is the way she has to go, the journey towards it is the only life she enjoys.

It is hard; it is exciting; it is satisfying, lonely, joyous, frustrating, puzzling, enlightening, real; it is her life, that's all. She accepts it.

3 magic potions

theres a story of a man who constantly lived with tremendous inner pain. the pain of of not being able to truly love anyone of the opposite sex. suspicion haunted him like a dark shadow where ever he met a woman. it was impossible to let go of all the horrible thoughts about the "past lovers" and of the "lovers to come" of the women he came across... women pleaded with him that their past lovers were a genuine mistake but he would not believe a single word they were saying...

so this man went on a journey in search of a mysterious flower and after much traveling, he find his herb and concocted an elixir to suit his purpose. just one drop of this magic potion will make anyone speak the truth in their hearts... he hurriedly fed the potion to his female companion and asked her, "what are you thinking of?" and she replied, "the handsome lover that i adored before i met you!" in deep depression and regrets, he thought the days of suspicion were so much better than what he was going through now...

so he wanders again and this time... he was able to find another potion where, all memories of past lovers is completely wiped out from her heart... "he" will be her "first love"

but even this magical potion did not bring true happiness to him... he soon realized that although he will be her only love of "past" and the "now" there was no guarantee that he will be her love in the "future" he leaves again in search of the perfect potion...

and what he discovered was the ultimate potion. a potion that makes a person believe there will be No One BUT him who will love them... he knew this was it...

he fed the first potion to his lover and she began spilling her guts about her wonderful past lovers... the man swallowing tears of rage fed her the second potion... and amazingly, she began to say things that he had wanted to hear... that there is no one but him in her life and that she will love him to no ends... then he finally gave her the third potion, a potion that will make her love him... and only him all through eternally. he whispered gently... "you will forver be mine... and you will know that im the only lover that can satisfy your needs..." he knew this incredible potion will grant him true happiness...

but as soon she drank the third potion, her body began to become cold... the third potion was indeed working... for she no longer needed another man to love... and gave up her last breath in his arms...

Hey guys and gals-- thanks to shiho for the heads up on this one. I'm definitely in-- anybody wanna join us?

This is a photo of the Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. I'm starting a Salsa night there this Monday, March 14th.
If you've never been to this Hotel you need to check it out. It's class, all class with being laid back at the same time.
The Hotel is actually located on the beach. You go out the back entrance you are on the sand.
From the dance floor you can see the ocean! We will have a live band, Frank Cano's "Latin Groove". Live Salsa music over looking the ocean; not a bad combination. The inside of the hotel is big with plenty of tables, couches, stuffed chairs and a great circular bar. The tables are also located with views of the ocean and are far enough away from the dance floor that you can have a conversation without yelling. Another great set up is a large pit area full of couches and stuffed chairs surrounding a two sided fireplace. It will be a great place to dance and a great place to socialize. Just think, you could actually meet someone and take a nice walk on the beach. I'm promise you, you won't regret it if you come and check this place out.
The cost is 0, no cover charge. I'm teaching from 6:30 pm-8:00pm.
6:30-7:15: Beginners Basics
7:15-8:00: Beg./Intermediate patterns

The band will start at 8:00 and play till 11:00. It's Monday, get an early night of Salsa in.

exiting the cafe... he walked in front of me and by speculating his height, his chin was some what near my forehead... hmmmm im 5' 6" and with these 2" heels, he cant be no more than 5' 9"

since i was 24, time was never wasted in search of my perfect soulmate... my endeavor to compare heights in relation to mine with strangers and guy friends occured every where, grocery store, library, clubs, resaurants, etc etc... and this weird habit of mine all began when a friend once told me, "the true test of compatibility is determined by the "two" heights... if your forehead touches his chin... its a pretty good sign"

so my quest for the perfect "height" continues on...

and always my concern in finding the perfect soulmate was never included in the exciting conversation of my girlfriends... who in fact, in-sensitively, coldly brags about having her second child... smiling at me with no concern for this 31 yr/old single female...

so i meet this guy whos 37 and he says, "So, whats your dream?"

he didnt say, "what was" but "what is"

he replies with a smile and says, "What do you mean you have no dreams..." i feel like ive just met an alien from another world... a pleasant experience...

a guy who can ask a 31 yr/old lady who's dreams have long been buried under so much jaded thoughts... my heart began to beat with excitement... my eyes focused into his

i took off my "heels" and was happy to see that my "forehead of the heart" perfectly touched his chin...

surprisedly awaken by my own snoring sound... i quickly glanced my eyes to see if he was sleeping... but wait... geez he's awake... how embarassing... its 1 AM

but hold up here... he's not only awake but on the phone with somebody? my instincts tells me its a lady... cant really hear well but the faint sound confirms its a female's voice! i sense my nails spring up to claw like action underneath the sheets... but i kept pretending as if i was still sleeping... listening nontheless

i hear him say, "uh huh..." and im thinking, she probably asked him... "is your wife sleeping?"

i hear him again say... "uh huh..." and im thinking, she probably asked him... "do you love me?" or "can you come out right now baby?"

and to my shock, he goes "i'll be there right now"

i shouted in my mind... "OHHH YOUR SO FUCKIN' BUSTED!"

as he quietly got up and dressed himself, i threw a brick on the back of his head by saying... "WHO THAT BITCH???!!!"

realizing that he got caught, he confessed by saying... "its mrs. jones..." mrs. jones??? a sexy widow who lived next door? FUCk!
with the admission of his guilt... anger erupted like a fiery volcano... "FUUUUUUCkin ASSHOLE!~!~!~! YOUR DEAD!!!!!"

...Why do I tend to attract the men "who are not ready for a relationship"? Do I stick around to see if he changes his mind? Or do I acknowledge and move on? ("Should I stay or should I go now.....")

What makes a man say that to the girl he's been dating for a while? When does a man "know that he's ready"? Personally.... I pretty much know within a couple of months if he's worth getting to know better and start having a committed relationship. If I don't think he and I will mesh well, I let him know....

Anyone else out there with the same situation? Please help me understand. ('Cuz I know I'm a great catch! :p)

In praise of Men

I just saw "In Good Company" the Dennis Quaid movie where he plays a salesman who gets demoted and has to report to this 26 year old kid...
And, maybe it's hokey, but from the first few frames of the film, I was just overwhelmed with a deep appreciation and love for men. Average men, dads, husbands, doing what they need to do to provide for their families... I always dig men, but this was such a sweet thing, it lasted throughout the film and beyond.
It bears repeating. I love men. All the big and little things they (you) do for us, what they (you) have to put up with in the world and even from the women (you) love--- it's humbling really.
I just wanted to share this with all of you. I think it gets left out of the prevailing cultural conversation, and that's too bad.

Best ways to let go?

See, I fell in love with this guy, and duh, it didn't work out (unbelievably long and complex, but rather entertaining story)
and he lives like, REALLY far away (Cambodia)
but, I promised to be faithful, (before it wasn't working out)
and somehow, (perhaps for the first time in my life)
I actually want to be, (faithful)
and can't even wrap my mind around the idea of anyone else.

Is this weird?
I've always pretty much gotten right back on the horse, so to speak.

If anyone has any tips on how to get it through to my heart, mind and body that it's really over--- please share. It's been way too long.

In-N-Out Burger has a secret unpublished menu for insiders who are In-The-Know. Next time you're at In-N-Out (i.e. tomorrow or maybe tonight), order a bag of these off-the-menu specials:

"3-by-3" = three meat patties and three slices of cheese.

"4-by-4" = four meat patties and four slices of cheese.

"2-by-4" = two meat patties and four slices of cheese.

*Note: You can get a burger with as many meat patties or cheese slices as you want. Guys and girls... what's your story? Why are you single? Been married and divorced? Haven't found Mr. Right?...just right now?
My story is that I was in a long term relationship from age 21 to 28 to a guy in medical school. Was engaged to be married. Found out that he wasn't THE man for me after he graduated from med school. Broke it off and have been single ever since.
I haven't been able to meet the ONE yet. How do I find him? How does he find me?
I tend to get into relationships with men...they all start out dreamy. Then, they aren't ready for commitment and love and stop calling. It's not like I want to get married right away and have babies... I just want to find someone who I can relate to and have a great time with.
It's so hard to meet someone...is it just me? I just want to be loved and love someone unconditionally.

I'm reposting for a friend in need....

Dear Friends,

Our best friend is dying, We are sad as hell, and We are asking for your help. Now is the time to show that “community ”and “connections ”mean a lot more than just bopping around at late-night parties together.

Our friend ’s name is Curtis Coleman. He gives a lot to the world, and we desperately need what he gives. He runs the Cult of E.R.I.C. village at Burning Man and a member of the Pagoda of Infinite Reflection this year on the playa. Last year, he was the nation ’s most popular elementary school entertainer, reaching tens of thousands of young kids through song to teach them about safety, public spirit, and most importantly, that they have a voice. We need our children to find their voice.

Curtis now has no voice, fighting an aggressive cancer in his throat called squamous cell carcinoma. Soon Curtis will have neck dissection surgery, plus aggressive radiation & chemo. On paper his chances of survival are less than 1 in 4, but cancer victims facing far worse odds have been “miraculously ”cured when enough people came together to make it happen. We do amazing things together within our respective families, so please, please participate in saving Curtis ’life and prove we can do amazing things together within our community.

So many of you know Curtis, are stunned by this news, and have already asked how you can help. Some of Curtis ’closest friends have put together a plan of action we hope everyone connected to Curtis in any way will participate in. We need three things immediately for Curtis: money, time, and love.

Money: Curtis has no insurance, and the most promising medical treatments aren ’t covered by the county ’s last resort coverage. If everyone that sees this gives up a couple lattes and contributes at least $10 or more if you can, we ’ll be on our way to giving Curtis the best chance possible at life. If the Buddha Married

Has anyone else read this book, If the Buddha Married, by Charlotte Kasl? The subtitle is Creating Enduring Relationships on a Spiritual Path. I just ended a relationship, read this book, and it resonated so clearly with me. The author really lays out a path to find true spiritual fulfillment, as part of a relationship. She even makes a case for how conflict can lead to much deeper understanding than would be possible without it. It's one of those reads where I've had an inkling of what I was seeking in a true partnership, but never could have so succinctly put it into words as she has.

I'd love to hear what others think of the book, especially if you've tried or experienced some of what she writes about.

As I grow in age, I value women who are over 30 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 30 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, "What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think. If a woman over 30 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it's usually something more interesting. A woman over 30 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants, and from whom. Few women past the
age of 30 give a damn what you might think about her or what she's doing. Women over 30 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, if they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated. A woman over 30 has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best friend because she doesn't trust the guy with other women. Women over 30 couldn't care less if you're attracted to her friends because she knows her friends won't betray her. Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 30. They always know. A woman over 30 looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not true of younger women or drag queens. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 30 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk if you are acting like one! You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 30 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed hot woman of 30+, there is a paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year-old waitress. Ladies, I apologize. For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?". Here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage, why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig, just to get a little sausage.

Who's up for a mixer?

I've read all sorts of posts, and I've seen all sorts of descriptions of great people. I've also seen lots of people that seem like they are looking for someone, not just enjoying being single.

Soooooo.... for all the people that are looking, wanna have a mixer? We could do it speed dating style, where we all meet at a public, safe place and spend a brief amount of time introducing ourselves and sorta looking for a spark. At the end of the night, we all go home and send messages to each other's tribe names.

If we do it right, with an even amount of guys and gals, we can cram in like 10-20 mini dates in one night/bar tab.

Who's in? I'll organize if the response if good enough.

A different challenge...

I had an interesting experience last night that I thought it would be interesting to share. Tell me what you think, from both points of view.

I'm at this party last night, cool people and stuff happening all over the place. I'm approached by a beautiful woman and we start taking. It's all going well... a couple of flirtive giggles, etc. Cheesy shit like that.

Then she walks over to the booze with a grin and I say hey, let me make something for you. She asks for an apple martini, and I pour a decent one, with the stuff on hand (two years of part time bartending always comes in handy at parties). She then looks at me and asks what I'm having. I'm just drinking water so I say no thanks. She looks at me funny and I say the words that I know are just about to end this encounter.

"I don't drink."

Needless to say, she's polite about it and hangs for few more minutes but eventually bails and I'm once again dancing by myself.

In this singles crowd, is someones drinking habits a deal breaker? Guys and girls, are you put off if someone has a different view than you when it comes to alcohol?

For me, I've found it challenging. Anyone who knows me and hangs around with me knows that I never judge other people on their choices. I don't preach sobriety or anything like that at all. Hell, I mix other people drinks because I want them to have the best possible time. I am a non-drinker because I can't handle it. Just like some people can't handle drugs, I can't handle booze.

Anyone else deal with this little challenge?
